The World Health Organization often sets out the whole month of October to support the fight against breast cancer. It is the most prevalent cancer in the world and even in Nigeria, yet it can be cured if detected early.

On 15th October 2021, through the support of Media Health Foundation, we had a radio discussion at Coal City 92.9FM, Enugu, Enugu state, Nigeria, to further engage in discussions to increase awareness about breast cancer.

In that discussion, I offered answers to the following questions (the numbers closeby to each question are timestamps to the discussion on YouTube):

  • What is breast cancer? 02:24
  • What are the causes of breast cancer? 02:39
  • What are the risk factors? 03:29
  • Is prolonged breastfeeding an advantage or a disadvantage to its prevention? 05:23
  • How is it related to menstruation? 08:02
  • Is it hereditary? 09:18
  • What can one do to prevent or detect it early? 10:34
  • Why is there a recent increase in the number of breast cancer cases? 15:40
  • How can men detect abnormalities in their breasts? 17:16
  • What are the available remedies? 18:34
  • Is there a stage where it is incurable and what should be done? 19:12

See the video below to follow through with the discussion.

Meanwhile, you will also love to see this information on non-communicable diseases, what they are and how to be safe from them, but don’t also forget to drop a comment or your thoughts on this breast cancer topic, here or on YouTube.

Regards,

Dr. STM
